Jakob D. Hamilton, PhD
Dr. Hamilton is the John B. Slater Professor in Sustainable Design & Manufacturing in the Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering department at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. Dr. Hamilton specializes in understanding additive manufacturing process phenomenon via in-situ imaging and developing new applications for dissimilar and bimetallic metal printing. Dr. Hamilton maintains interests in CNC manufacturing and teaching how cool manufacturing is.
Dr. Hamilton earned his doctorate in July 2023 from the Industrial and Systems Engineering department at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in Rochester, New York for his work titled, “Cast Iron Repair Through Directed Energy Deposition and Ancillary Processing Modes.” His master’s degree was earned at RIT in Dec. 2019 for work on developing aluminum matrix composites for powder bed fusion. He earned his bachelor’s in Engineering Science in 2018 at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa.
