Summary of Duties and Responsibilities
The Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering (IMSE) at Iowa State University invites applications for a faculty position as an Assistant, Associate or Full Professor in the area of manufacturing. Candidates will be expected to develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses, establish and sustain strong research programs in their area of expertise, act as adviser to graduate students and undergraduate student research, and provide service to the department, college, and university. Manufacturing expertise should be closely related to advanced manufacturing technologies and processes, digital manufacturing, advanced sensing and control, or advanced materials manufacturing.
The successful applicant will be participating in all aspects of the department’s mission, including developing a strong externally funded research program, teaching and supervising students at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and participating in service to the university.
Practical experience in manufacturing
Candidates at the level of Assistant Professor must demonstrate ability or potential for funded research and for excellence in teaching in the area of manufacturing.
Candidates at the level of Associate or Full Professor, in addition to the above, must demonstrate ability for funded research and for excellence in teaching in the area of manufacturing, commensurate with qualifications for the rank at Iowa State University.
Department/Program & College Description
The IMSE department has over 27,000 square feet of centrally located space. It has invested over $3M in manufacturing labs in the last eight years. Manufacturing researchers in IMSE are actively participating in three institutes established by National Network for Manufacturing Innovation.
The department has collaborations in all of these areas across the Engineering College and University. The ISU College of Engineering comprises eight departments with 300+ tenure/tenure-track faculty members and annual research expenditures exceeding $99 million.
U.S. News and World Report ranks the IMSE graduate program 24th in the U.S. and 16th among public universities while the College of Engineering is ranked in the top 25 among public universities and is one of the ten largest undergraduate engineering programs in the U.S. Unique facilities at Iowa State include the Ames Laboratory of the Department of Energy, and interdisciplinary centers of excellence such as the Wind Energy Initiative, Center for Nondestructive Evaluation (CNDE), and the Center for Industrial Research and Services (CIRAS).

Postdoctoral Research Associate Position
The Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering (IMSE) at Iowa State University invites applications for qualified postdoctoral research associate position(s) in the broad area of industrial and manufacturing systems engineering. Candidates with expertise in Data Science (machine learning and big data analytics), Advanced Manufacturing (process control/optimization and light-matter interaction/simulation), or Complex Cyberphysical Systems Engineering are preferred (are highly encouraged to apply).
- An earned Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated experience in proposal development.
- Demonstrated experience in high impact scholarship.
- Demonstrated experience in collaborative skills.
The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills, both written and oral, in order to meet the needs of this position. The successful candidate will have the ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team of administrative staff and research professionals.
The duration of the position is expected to be one year and may be renewable based on performance and availability of funding. The salary will be commensurate with the prior research experience of the applicant. Successful applicants will be mentored for faculty careers. This position is available immediately.

The IMSE department has a history of excellence in advanced manufacturing, classical engineering statistics (including reliability, experimental design and analysis, statistical metrology, and process control), operations research and analytics, human factors and ergonomics, systems engineering and engineering management.
