Yanhua Huang


With a Master’s of Science in Material Science and Engineering, Yanhua is pursuing a doctorate degree in the Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering Department. His research focuses on solvent-based ink formulation R&D for the EHD ink-jet (e-jet) printing process, X-ray microscopic nondestructive evaluation, food 3D printing, and 3D printing filament manufacturing and quality control.

Xuepeng Jiang

Xuepeng is currently a Ph.D. student in IMSE. He received his B.S. degree in dual majors with Physics and Astronomy & Astrophysics at the Ohio State University. His research area includes excimer laser application, laser diffraction, and additive manufacturing.

Weijun Shen

Weijun Shen is a Ph.D. student co-majored in IMSE and Mechanical Engineering. and a Graduate Research Assistant at the Center for Nondestructive Center. His work focuses on Additive Manufacturing (AM) and X-ray Computed Tomography (XCT) inspection for AM. Before coming to ISU, he worked as a lab coordinator/teaching assistant at Shanghai Polytechnic University for six years.

Charchit Shukla

Charchit Shukla joined the FEAP lab as a Ph.D. student in January 2021. He earned his M.S. degree in Industrial engineering at Iowa State University and B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from BITS-Pilani. He has also held positions of responsibility in the industry for nearly 2 years. His current research interests are additive manufacturing, control theory, and robotics.

Li Yu

Li Yu joined the FEAP group as a Ph.D. student in January 2021. He earned his M.S. and B.S. degrees in Biological and Agricultural Engineering at North Carolina State University. He had 1 year’s experience as a field lab technician at the Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering of Iowa State University. His current research interest is the 3D printing of solid-state batteries.

Dr. Yang Cao

Yang Cao joined the FEAP lab as a postdoctoral scholar in January 2021. He received his Ph.D. degree in Industrial Engineering from North Carolina State University in 2020, M.S. degree in Mechatronic Engineering from Chongqing University in 2016, and B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Wuhan University of Technology in 2013. His current research interests include additive manufacturing, micro/nano-manufacturing, flexible and stretchable electronics.

Rahul Singh

Rahul Singh is currently pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering at Iowa State University. He received the B.Tech. degree in electronics and telecommunication engineering from the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), India, in 2011, and the M.Tech. degree in avionics from Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), India, in 2015. His research interests include signal processing, machine learning, data analysis, and graph signal processing. His hobbies are biking, football (soccer), and chess.

Vignesh Suresh

Vignesh Suresh is pursuing his Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering. He is working on projects related to optics – 3D shape measurement and the mechanical applications of the same. He did his Undergrad at PSG College of Technology (India) in Mechanical Engineering. He is a big-time fan of cricket. He loves to watch any match (Live or old ones). He also plays badminton in his leisure time.

Shaodong Wang

Shaodong Wang (shaodong@iastate.edu) is pursuing his Ph.D. in the Department of IMSE at Iowa State University. He got his bachelor’s degree in Statistics from Nanjing University in China in 2017 and master’s degree in Statistics from University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2018.

Yi Zheng

Yi is a Ph.D. student in 3DAOS focusing on novel 3D optical solutions. He has prior research experience on large-scale transportation system optimization, using big data manipulation and data visualization techniques. Yi also has an interest in 3D printing. He built his own 3D printer to participate in a 3D printing competition and obtained a patent on a novel 3D printer.

Dr. Hao Lyu

Hao Lyu is an assistant professor in the School of Mathematics and Physics at Qingdao University of Science and Technology. He is currently a visiting scholar in the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering of Iowa State University. He received his Ph.D. in materials science and engineering from Qingdao University of Science and Technology after completing his MS in materials processing engineering and BS in inorganic nonmetal material engineering at the same University in China. Dr. Lyu’s research interests lie in micro-nano photonic structures, holographic lithography, micro-nano cavity lasing, and plasma-enhanced random lasing. He has received several awards including top ten outstanding youth of Qingdao University of Science and Technology (2018), the first prize in the Shandong province teaching competition of youth teachers (2017), the first prize in the teaching competition of young teachers in the physical foundation course of Shandong Province (2016), the second prize of outstanding scientific research of Shandong Province (2014), the third prize of natural sciences of Qingdao (2012).

Eric Spahr

Eric is a junior at Iowa State studying Industrial Engineering. In his spare time, he enjoys longboarding, playing soccer, and building stupid stuff with his roommates. He is an active member of the martial arts club on campus and hopes to attain his black belt in taekwondo by graduation.

Kevin Lin

Kevin is a junior in Industrial Engineering. He is interested in software development and process improvement. In his free time, he enjoys watching movies and golfing with his friends. After finished study at Iowa State, he went to graduate school at MIT.

Benjamin Lies

Ben is currently a second-year IMSE Master student with a variety of research focuses including electrohydrodynamic jet printing (E-jet printing), laser ablation, laser diffraction, and machine vision. Ben received his Bachelor’s degree in Physics from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota where he also played Division III basketball. In his spare time, he enjoys playing basketball and computer gaming.

Aditya Rao Madhavaram

Aditya is a graduate student in Industrial Engineering. He has pursued his Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from Vasavi College of Engineering. Sandeep Kumar

Sandeep is a graduate student doing his Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering with a specialization in Advanced Manufacturing. His areas of interest are Manufacturing, Rapid prototyping, and Lean manufacturing. He is working on the project “Laser ablation of thin-film polymers”. He has been an Engineering intern at Tube products of India Limited during 2016. He did his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from Anna University in India. Sandeep’s hobbies are terrace gardening and playing badminton.

Prashant Polampally

Prashant is pursuing a Master’s in Industrial Engineering. His research interests are additive manufacturing, food printing, process improvements, and lean manufacturing.
