Optimization is like climbing a mountain. The goal is to find a path to reach the top as safely and as quickly as possible. Optimization for big data is just the same, except everything is done in very bad weather. Dr. Hong’s research focus is in addressing theoretical and practical issues in optimization for big data. The theory and algorithms developed in Dr. Hong’s research have been applied to solve problems in areas such as machine learning, signal processing and designing next generation communication networks.
