In our increasingly complex world, we require technology that is more capable, more aware, and more tightly couples with user needs. Dr. Dorneich is interested in designing joint cognitive systems that adapt to the user, the environment, and the current situation – often without explicit instructions from its users. New design approaches are needed that consider issues like automation etiquette to develop adaptive systems that support human activity in complex domains.
