B.S. in IE Program Educational Objectives

 Our graduates, after attaining the Program Outcomes as IE majors, will be able to:

  1. Make decisions concerning system design, analysis, and operation with broad-based analytical tools and information technology.
  2. Formulate and analyze problems in specific application areas including manufacturing, production, logistics, ergonomics, service industries, public policies, or information systems.
  3. Develop and implement project solutions concerning designs, processes, operations, or systems.
  4. Prepare and deliver professional communications in written and oral formats.
  5. Achieve team goals in a multidisciplinary team environment and provide leadership in some capacity, based on an understanding of team dynamics and project management.
  6. Acquire new skills and training for lifelong learning.

These objectives represent the expected accomplishments of our graduates as they progress in their professional careers. The objectives also provide direction and guidelines for our faculty in their curriculum design and development efforts including program outcome determination, assessment, and improvement.

These objectives are entirely consistent with the mission of the Department, College, and University.

The program objectives deliberately and systematically support the departmental mission statement because achieving quantitative decision-making, application-specific formulation and analysis, project solutions, professional communication, multidisciplinary teamwork, and lifelong learning fosters successful improvement in the areas specified in the mission statement while addressing the knowledge domain of Industrial Engineering.

The program objectives are also consistent with the mission of the College because the improvement in profit and nonprofit as well as government and non-government organizations leads to the improvement of the quality of life in Iowa, the nation, and the world.
